Doing nothing
Why doing nothing feels uncomfortable (even when you need it)
Ever sat down to do nothing… and immediately felt like you should be doing something?
It’s almost instant.
Your brain goes:
“So what now?”
And suddenly rest feels uncomfortable.
So you get up again.
Or scroll.
Or find something small to do.
Even when you’re tired.
I’ve noticed I can do this too.
That habit of staying lightly busy instead of actually resting.
But nothing bad happens when you stop.
Life doesn’t fall apart.
The list is still there later.
It just… waits.
And slowly, something in you starts to settle when you allow yourself to pause.
Not because everything is finished.
But because you are allowed to rest even while life is still happening.
And that changes everything.
Rest doesn’t have to be something you earn.
It can just be something you return to.
And the more you let yourself pause without guilt… the easier it becomes to actually hear yourself again.
And that’s where things start to shift.
